The detectives’ primary responsibilities are investigating general criminal cases which require follow-up investigation including interviewing victims, suspects, and witnesses; major criminal offenses assigned directly to the bureau; prepare cases for presentation to the courts; and crime scene processing.
The juvenile detectives’ responsibilities include investigating criminal offenses committed by juveniles; make determinations as to the disposition and referrals, investigate abuse cases committed against juveniles; conduct tobacco compliance checks; and prepare and present cases to the prosecutor and courts.
The primary responsibility of the SLANT officers is to focus on the mid to upper level drug operations in the state line area.
The evidence officer is responsible for maintaining all evidence which comes into the Freeport Police Department; transporting evidence to forensic laboratories; disposing of evidence after court purposes; releasing evidence back to the victim, witness, or suspect; and making sure all evidence is correctly sealed, packaged, and stored.
