City Council Member – Scott Helms, 6th Ward
Elected 2007 and 2011 Originally from Mt. Carroll, Freeport has been the home to Scott Helms for the past 18 years. Although not born and raised here, he is married to someone who was. Scott and his wife, Stephanie, are both very involved in the Freeport community, doing so, in part, to be good examples to their three children Abby, Caroline, and John. Scott writes that It has been a true honor and pleasure serving and representing the residents of the 6th Ward on the City Council since 2005 when he was appointed to fulfill a term. He then was elected to the position in 2007 and 2011. Scott has also volunteered as a March of Dimes Neighborhood Coordinator for many years, assisted low-income residents as a trained budget counselor, worked with the American Red Cross Heroes Campaign, and continues to serve as a lector at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Previous board positions held by Scott include Vice-Chairman of the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners and member of the Airport Commission. In summary Scott said, "I am eager and willing to make our community a better place. I invite
the residents of the 6th Ward, or any ward for that matter, to share your
concerns and opinions with me, and help me to raise your voices in City
matters."
